The meal begins with a trophy cabinet of starters.
The uni had a slight taste of alum. The kue had a bone. The akaza ebi is lightyears away from the signature dish at Ao.
Next two pasta dishes.
Both of these are exceptional.
The main dish is Omi ichibo.
It's served on a cold plate and the sauce is so over-reduced it is basically inedible.
The pasta is so good we order two extra. These are both superb as well.
Dessert is "purin", the go-to of a restaurant that has no skill in pastry.
No after-meal drink is served. They don't even have sparkling water. An Italian restaurant without sparkling water!
It's a mandatory pairing. I counted just four glasses, though top-ups were offered. I don't know enough about wine to pass much judgement but nothing was outstanding.
Apart from the beef there are no bad dishes. As I've said three times now, the pasta was exceptional. But there is no way this is worth the money. None of the dishes are fully explained and none of the wines are introduced. Questions like "what type of pasta flour do you use" are answered with "normal flour". Cheese is just "cheese".
Another Minato-ku restaurant where dining is more about eating trophy ingredients, cachรฉ and making friends with the chef, rather than the pursuit of gastronomic excellence. The chef's Instagram is mainly videos of him eating his own lunch in silence? What a twat.
