Since 11th March (not the most auspicious date) a JPY 2,000 Wednesday lunch-only set is available. This comprises appetizers, 7 tempura, a choice of hot or cold soba and a small dessert. The tempura is fried by a student of Umezawa-san.
For JPY 2,000 the tempura are fine. The quality of the seafood was fine. Unless the soba is extraordinary I'm not going to enjoy it, and here it was not extraordinary. As always, Mikawa tempura is on the heavy side and you're really gonna reek of sesame oil when you leave. I also left with an unpleasant taste of oil on my palate. While the meal was not rushed there were some unnecessary annoyances with the service, like serving the dessert halfway through the set rather than at the end. So even at this price, too many personal negatives for me to want to go back and no interest in returning for a course. However, if you like soba and you want to eat Mikawa-style tempura, this is the cheapest way to do it right now.

๐ฑ Booking: Course reservations by Tabelog or TableCheck. For the Wednesday lunch you'll have to queue. I arrived at 11:18 and was first in the queue. By 11:20 three more people had joined, 11:23 + 2 and at opening time at 11:30 all eight seats were occupied. When I left four people were waiting. They only serve 30 sets per lunch so I recommend arriving by 11:20 and ensuring you're in the first round, otherwise you could be in for a much longer wait or disappointment. Note the Tabelog page says closed Wednesday lunch but that's just for courses, so maybe check their Instagram for changes to the set lunch
