The shirako to-age, as part of the hassun was great, the frying technique particularly good.  The other parts of the hassun were not special.  Buri, shinjo and daikon owan I rated 9/10.  Three fish dishes followed: the aji and katsuo I rated 10/10.  The aji was on par with fish from Sasue Maeda.  The signature torotaku I rated 9/10.  It was a touch cold and you could imagine it with better quality tuna, but you can't complain about the generosity with three pieces served.  After what I thought was the main dish of beef, an unexpected inclusion of Matsuba shinjo, kabu and kabu dashi.  This too was perfect and might have been better than the entire meal I had at Ubuka just around the corner, earlier in the year.  The meal ended with three soba dishes and unadon.  As always I would have preferred more rice but as soba goes they were all good, particularly the karasumi soba.

It's easy to see why this place is popular.  Omakase has risen in price and now comes in at JPY 27,500 plus 10% service charge, but that's reasonable value.  All the staff are nice.  There were some genuine 10s in the meal.  And, always a hit, although it's omakase, instead of just a single rice dish at the end there are several carbohydrates and you can choose how much you'd like of each one.  If you leave here hungry there's something wrong with you.  Photographs of a meal near-identical to what I had are in this Tabelog review, thought it seems that person tapped out before the kaki soba.

The chef was allowing customers to book again (next availability was not for another five months).  Ultimately I had to decide whether I preferred to eat here again or keep 30k in my pocket, and I chose the latter.
