There are several courses to choose from but I went for the cheapest lunch course at JPY 10,000, available on weekdays only. A JPY 6,000 lunch course was available in 2023 but has stopped.
First up raw beef with a sauce made from egg yolk. All the beef used here is Omi beef, one of the so-called "famous" three sources of Japanese beef (Kobe and Matsuzaka are the other two). This was the best beef dish in the course. 9/10. Next tama-negi surinagashi, tofu, beef consomme jelly, uni. 8.5/10. The uni was excellent but the dish needed more of that jelly and the surinagashi needed more punch. Next seared katsuo, tomato concasse, herb salad. 9.5-10/10. This was best dish in the meal. The katuso was high quality and the seasonings were fresh and vibrant. Before some more meat a fruit tomato palette cleanser. 8.5/10. I've had better and worse. It was high enough quality that it didn't need any additional seasoning (which it came without) so no complaints at this price. Next the 'signature' wagyu slider. 7.5/10. Good flavour but too much gristle. Just after some expertly-grilled vegetables the main event.
80g? of teppanyaki beef. We'll come back to that later.
Before dessert, garlic fried rice, wasabi hana and katsuoboshi (extremely moreish - 8.5/10), akadashi (a bit weak - 7.5/10) and some stewed beef (mostly fat - 7/10). Garlic chips (not pictured) were served with the steak.
To finish, grape sherbet which had a very natural flavour and tasted better than I expected (8/10) and good coffee served with fresh cream (thank you!).
Service is as you'd expect from a high-end teppanyaki restaurant in Tokyo, superb. In addition, although the chef didn't speak English, menus were fully bilingual, as were wait staff. The view outside is mostly blocked by the structure of the building but you might pick out the top of some famous nearby towers and see Sky Tree in the distance, or you can just enjoy the skills in the cooking show.
Overall this was excellent value for a meal of this quality in this location with this level of service. Of the teppanyaki restaurants I've been to in the distant past (Sazanka, Keyakizaka and Ebisu) this course is probably the best value. But the main dish needs to be the star of the show and, as expected, it was a bit greasy and reminded me why I'd stopped eating teppanyaki and only eat kiln-fired steak or grilled beef. For an introduction to kiln-fired steak I recommend TCC Rogama Sumibiyaki Steak, just a short distance away. Once you've had it you'll never go back to teppanyaki. This is a restaurant you go to if you're a tourist or taking your parents or taking your Ginza hostess "girlfriend" or for when someone else is paying or (better yet) all of the former at the same time.
