Lunch and dinner are priced at JPY 13,200 and JPY 16,500 respectively.  These were discounted to JPY 8,800 and JPY 11,000 during the first six weeks of the restaurant's opening.  I went for the discounted lunch.

The shiro ebi tart was the best of the three amuse (8.5/10).  The deep fried ayu tasted mainly of cooking oil and I couldn't taste the mango (6.5/10).  The soba galette was very good but the filling was meh.  I scored the tuna dish 8 out of 10: 1 point for each mouthful.  The cold hamaguri and asparagus I also scored 8.  The ingredients were very fresh but there were literally three bites of shell fish.  Fish course proper was managatsuo with a catering college beurre blanc.  Another 8 out of 10.  The best of the savoury courses was the smoked Sisteron lamb with périgueux sauce.  I've had better lamb dishes so scored this no more than 8.5/10.  Two kinds of bread were served, a white flour bread and wholemeal bread.  I scored these 8 and 8.5/10, respectively.  Bread was refilled but the olive oil that came with it was not.  Dish of the day was the dessert: red berry compote, lychee mousse, vanilla ice-cream (smallest scoop ever), chocolate crumb and cress.  I scored this 9/10.  Had the portion been larger, so would my score.  The meal finished with choice of drink, the world's tiniest Galette Bretonnes and yuzu flavoured chocolate.

A 5-glass wine pairing was available at JPY 6,600 for 40ml each, JPY 8,800 for 50ml each or JPY 11,000 for 80ml each.  I opted for the smallest one.  The wines were decent (says the wine uncultivated) and it was a good way to sample at a reasonable price.  There was a choice of red for the main (one a Châteauneuf-du-Pape).  I had no clue so the sommelier generously gave me 20ml of each.

There were three sous chefs and one sommelier / restaurant manager.  The restaurant manager could speak decent English.  The chef had a few words.  There was a staggered start for lunch.  All the other customers arrived before me.  I arrived 30 mins into service and ended up finishing first.  As the meal went on dishes were timed so they could be served to multiple groups at once.

If I'd paid the full price for the food I think I'd be pretty mad.  It's Japan, it's 2023 and it's a chef with experience in Michelin starred kitchens so the ingredients will be good, presentation will be great and you're not going to get any poor cooking.  But portions were tiny and, more than that, (with the possible exception of the dessert) there was no personality in any dish.  If you were served these dishes outside of the restaurant you'd never guess from where they came.

The location is great.  It's a brilliant choice if you're looking to wine and dine someone on a date where the food needs to be good enough and not exceptional, you don't want to wince at the bill, you don't want to feel so tired and stuffed you just want to fall into a taxi to take you home (on your own), but you do want to be within walking distance of the full gamut of after-dinner options.  But if you're just going for the food then give it a miss.
