For dinner there's a single option of a tasting menu which increased in price from JPY 8,800 to JPY 11,000 in November 2022 with a simultaneous 6pm start. Lunch courses of around JPY 4,000 were available during Coronavirus restrictions. I was interested in going for dinner or the lunch course but before taking the plunge I wanted to get a sense of the cooking by trying the 'Dal Bhat' lunch. This was previously JPY 1,200 but is now priced at JPY 2,000 (JPY 2,500 on weekends?) although it includes a small chai at the end of the meal (previously charged at 300 yen) and refills of Basmati rice are now free.
Lunch beer and wine was available charged at JPY 1,000 each but there was only one choice of non-alcoholic drink, a spiced iced tea, so I skipped. Seems like a missed opportunity in lunch takings there.
I'd read that the food takes some time to arrive but everything is pre-cooked and on my visit I was served within 5 minutes. The dhal was watery and the chicken curry was pretty ordinary. If I hadn't been told the restaurant was Nepalese I would have just assumed it was Indian. The thali lunch at Vaji Spice in Yoyogi is more satisfying and better value, even with the price rise, as is the lunch at Hoppers. Also, definitely not enough for a full lunch.Overall, expensive and quite disappointing as I'd heard good things about this place. Perhaps it's better at dinner but the lunch didn't do it's job in enticing me to come back. The Dal Bhat is also available for takeout, priced at JPY 1,200. You don't get the chai and you loose a little in presentation but JPY 1,200 is much more reasonable value. So if you're still interested after reading this then start with the takeout.
