Tomidokoro is most famous for its 11-piece nigiri lunch at just JPY 6,000 including tax.  Rice is very soft and mildly sour.  Neta are large.  All my visits have included uni and one piece of fatty tuna.  On my most recent visit the kuruma ebi was as big as Sawada’s and had deep flavour.

On my second visit there were a couple of times when I had to ask the chef something and all I got was 'eh?' when he couldn't understand me the first time, which I felt was discourteous.  Chef was chatting with regulars but it seems like he didn't remember me, even though this was our third encounter (we were dining at the same counter at Akiyama earlier in the year).  On my third visit there was no conversation with anyone at all.  Chef simply, very quietly, names each piece of sushi.  Any inquiries are answered with single-word responses.  Other staff are more friendly.

With just 6 seats, 2-3 assistants and no simultaneous start the sushi is served very quickly, but not at all rushed.  Extra nigiri start from 500 yen (maguro would be more expensive) so it's always worth asking if chef recommends anything else.

With the price of sushi rising everywhere it's amazing there’s been no increase here and the quality is just as good.  Along with Sushi Taichi (review here), this is probably the best value sushi lunch in Tokyo at this price.  Bring your own atmosphere.

📱 Booking: 🟧 Previously I was able to make same or next-day bookings but to get my most recent seat I had to book six weeks in advance.  No rotation system so you can choose what time you'd like to come for lunch or dinner.  No English spoken.
